For many of us, beauty tips can become an obsession. We get so focused on the big things that we completely ignore the little things — small tidbits of wisdom that, over time, can make some pretty significant differences. When you can do so much and it requires so little, you really should consider how these tweaks could make a significant difference in your regimen.

Good beauty habits can be challenging, but they are so useful. It’s in the small habits that success starts to show. So if you’re having trouble keeping it together, perhaps one or more of these “little things” could be helpful in long run.

We’ve got a great list here for you, so let’s get to them!

1. Sunglasses. Always.

Okay, so maybe not “always” — not everyone can pull off sunglasses after dark, after all. But it’s a good rule to live by, just in case. The skin around your eyes is 40% thinner than other areas of your body. This means that when things like sunlight contact that skin, it has a much higher likelihood of showing there first. Sunglasses are a great way to look stylish while protecting the skin around your eyes — and your eyes, too!

2. Don’t sleep on your face.

For some this is obvious, but for stomach sleepers, not so much. The reality is that sleeping is one of the most important aspects of ensuring that your skin resets itself everyday. So the key for long term rejuvenated skin is to allow your pores to breathe at night. When you sleep face down in the pillow, not only can your skin not breathe, but it blocks pores and can lead to oily buildup. Before you know it, your face can become blackhead central. So just make sure to roll over onto your back and enjoy a restful night’s sleep and a rejuvenated face.

3. Sneaky Sunlight

Did you know that most windows don’t block out those harmful UV rays from the sun? That means that when you’re in the car, at the office, even sometimes at home, you are likely being exposed to more sunlight than is good for your skin. As such, make sure that you’ve always got some sort of broad-spectrum sunblock ready to go. This little thing in your purse will be a gamechanger the longer you practice it. Your ten-years-from-now self will thank you for it, trust me!

4. Mix liquid foundation with moisturizer.

Just a drop of moisturizer in your liquid foundation will do two things. For one, it will look less caked on and a whole lot more natural. You might need to experiment with this for a bit, but it is definitely a small trick to get more done with less and to create a unique look that will catch the eye.

5. Curl your lashes.

This is something that will take you little to no time and yet will deliver serious results. When you curl your lashes, your eyes appear bigger and it helps to shuffle off any grogginess from your gaze in the morning. It takes less than a minute to do effectively, so there’s really no excuse. It will make a big difference.

6. Massage products in.

This is one of the more critical ones. You’re already applying products to your skin in areas that could use a little massage. By applying a little bit of gentle pressure as you also apply a product, you will relax the skin, soothe yourself, and promote better blood flow to the regions. By also increasing oxygenation, it’s better for your skin in the long term as well.

7. Brush your hair before the shower.

By “pre-brushing” longer hair before stepping into the shower, you will significantly reduce breakage on the follicles, as you will be reducing the tangles before the weight of water can get into it. This can be tricky to squeeze in when you’re in between a workout and getting to the office, but it is a necessary step that will keep your hair at its best.

8. Avoid hot water on the face.

We all hate cold water, especially in the morning. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying to use chilled water, but something in between hot and cold when you wash your face. The key here is to not use hot water. The reason being is that hot water will dry out the skin, leading to negative results. This is a simple shift and will make all the difference in the world.
